Wrightington youngsters set for boost from new play area

Wrightington is among three West Lancashire villages set to receive a cash injection of more than £370,000 into their open spaces thanks to the Conservative-controlled Borough Council.

Plans have been drawn up to improve facilities in Wrightington, Banks and Hesketh Bank by using funds received from developers as part of the planning process.

In Wrightington, the Parish Council Council is working with the Conservative-controlled Borough Council on a brand new play area for 5-13 year olds as well as adventure facilities for teenagers on the Village Hall playing fields off Mossy Lea Road. There are also proposals to repair/replace of part of the boundary fence, install pedestrian gates, seat and picnic tables, and renovate the field's drainage system.

The funding which was approved by Cabinet on Tuesday evening has been welcomed by Wrightington's Conservative councillors, Peter Gartside and Michael Tattersall.   Cllr Tattersall said: “I am delighted with this news. It’s important that children in Wrightington have facilities on their doorstep rather than having to get their parents to drive them miles out of the village.”

Cllr Andrew Fowler, Conservative Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: "These are very exciting projects which will provide quality facilities for villagers of all ages while at the same time enhancing the communities which are set to benefit from them."

Cllr Ian Grant, Conservative Leader of the Borough Council, added: "West Lancashire Conservatives are committed to investing in communities right across the Borough, and we will continue working alongside Parish Councils to deliver real improvements for residents."
