Communities across West Lancashire will benefit from planned new capital schemes from the Conservative led council, subject to final approval by local councillors in December.
In Ormskirk, allotment holders will see main waters provided at Clucas Gardens, Owen Avenue and at Tower Hill. At Tower Hill the allotments will be re-fenced. Residents will be consulted about a project of up to £40,000 to transform Halsall Lane Park and Hurlston Brook will receive a major environmental clean up in the Dyers Lane area of town.
In Skelmersdale, Coronation Park will benefit from fencing repairs and replacement; new entrance gates; resurfaced paths through the park; and much improved landscaping. The play equipment will be repainted and, where necessary, refurbished and the planned police point for the Old Town is likely to be situated in the park as part of the £90,000 refurbishment.
Residents in rural areas will especially benefit from a £30,000 a year boost to Conservation Area grants. There are 27 Conservation areas in the Borough, mostly in rural areas.
Burscough residents will see a further £65,000 spent at Richmond Park. Improvements including a new pavilion, toilets, new paths, CCTV and better drainage are already underway. The latest additional funds will allow a larger building to be erected which will incorporate a community room for use by park-based groups and the urban ranger. New entrances gates and a new picnic area will also be provided.
In another part of Burscough, Manor Road residents will see the installation of the long-awaited children’s play area and Richmond Avenue allotments will receive mains water installation.
Adrian Owens, Deputy Leader of the Borough Council and Conservative General Election candidate said, “We continue to invest in the future of our Borough. This £300,000 boost will benefit areas across West Lancashire and underlines the council’s commitment to the future even in the face of the worst recession for 70 years.”
