Member of the European Parliament - Rt Hon Sir Robert Atkins MEP

Robert 's Experience

Sir Robert was first elected MEP for the North West region in 1999. He was Deputy Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament until November 2007. He was Conservative Spokesman on Industry and External Trade from 2001-2004, and was Spokesman on Regional Policy, Transport and Tourism from 1999-2001. He is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Transport & Tourism Committee.

Sir Robert was MP for Preston North and South Ribble from 1979-97 and during that time served as DTI Minister (1987-89), Minister of Transport (1989-90), Minister of Sport (1990-92), Minister of State, Northern Ireland (1992-94) and Minister of State for Environment and Countryside (1994-95). He became a Privy-Counsellor in 1995. and was knighted in 1997.

About Robert

Born in 1946, Robert is married with two children. He is a member of English Heritage, National Trust, Victorian Society, Sherlock Holmes Society, MCC, Lancashire CCC, Middlesex CCC, Lord's Taverners, and the Carlton Club. His interests include cricket.

Member of the European Parliament - Mr Sajjad Karim MEP

Sajjad 's Experience

Sajjad was elected to Pendle Borough Council in May 1994, where he served for eight years holding key chairmanships and vice chairmanships.

In June 2004, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament for the North West of England.

He serves on the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade and is Rapporteur on EU-India Trade Relations. He is also a member of the European Parliament's Sub-Committee on Human Rights.

He is a member of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the Gulf States and the Delegation for South Asia.

He is Chairman of the European Parliament Friends of Pakistan Group and Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament's Equality and Diversity Intergroup.

About Sajjad

Sajjad was born in Blackburn on 11th July 1970.
He qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales on 3rd February 1997. He was initially made an equity partner in the firm where he qualified and has since established two specialist law practices in the North West of England.

Member of the European Parliament - Jacqueline Foster - MEP

Prior to her being elected to the European Parliament for 5 years between 1999 and 2004, for more than 20 years, Jacqueline worked in the Airline Industry for British Airways.

For 10 of those years she was also Deputy General Secretary of the Independent Airline Trades Union, Cabin Crew '89 where she specialised in UK employment law and negotiated employment contracts and industrial agreements. She also spent 4 years working in Austria for a UK travel company as an Area manager, responsible for their Austrian operation.

Unfortunately, she was not returned to the Parliament in 2004 and became a Consultant and Advisor to the European Aerospace Industry in Brussels. She represents the interests of the major companies in the UK and Europe and uses her experience and expertise to ensure that they can continue to compete globally.
Jacqueline was born and educated in Liverpool and now lives on the Wirral.

Her hobbies include tennis and skiing and she enjoys exercising her two Bouvier dogs called Will and Grace.
She is a member of the Carlton Club in London, the Royal Aeronautical Society - Brussels Branch and the European Aviation Club in Brussels.

Jacqueline's Experience

During her time as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004, Jacqueline was Conservative Transport Spokesman, a Member of the Industry Committee, a Member of the Sky & Space Parliamentary Intergroup, Chairman of the Backbench Committee, Parliament Group negotiator on Zimbabwe as a Member of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. She also actively supported and liaised with the Foot & Mouth Committee of Enquiry and was a Member of the Animal Welfare Parliamentary Intergroup.

She was the Parliamentary Candidate for Peterborough in 1997 and for Newham South, East London in 1992.
